Alfonso Carrillo participates as UC3M coach at SAM 2026

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid team at the fifth edition of the Sports Arbitration Moot (SAM). Madrid, May 2026.

Alfonso Carrillo took part for the second year running as coach of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid team at the Sports Arbitration Moot (SAM), one of the leading international sports arbitration competitions for law students.

The Sports Arbitration Moot (SAM) brings together universities from around the world each year to compete in a sports arbitration simulation inspired by real disputes from the sector. Organised from Geneva and held in a hybrid format, the competition has established itself as an international benchmark for training future specialists in arbitration and sports law. Its 2026 edition gathered more than 70 universities from the five continents.

Alfonso Carrillo, partner at MIRLO and arbitrator at LaLiga's Football Arbitration Tribunal (TAF) and the Spanish Sports Arbitration Tribunal, was part of the coaching team of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, alongside the students who represented the university in this edition. For the third year in a row, the team qualified among the top 16 of the competition, reaching the final rounds held in Madrid. Taking part in this kind of competition allows students to develop skills in oral advocacy, legal analysis and procedural strategy within a highly demanding international setting.

Training the next generations of arbitration specialists is one of the academic areas to which MIRLO devotes particular attention. Participation in initiatives such as SAM reinforces our commitment to teaching, arbitration and the development of sports law.
